Tom E. Cole has been an active painter and sculptor for over 30 years. At age eighteen, Tom suffered a tragic accident that interrupted his artistic ventures and took his life through tumultuous turns. Eventually Tom regained his physical and cognitive capacities and received a BA from the University of Maryland at College Park with studies in Art and Education. Through his graduate work in theory and beyond, Tom's art and vision have continued to expand to create imaginative work on canvas and with innovative relief pieces in mixed media. Tom works out of his studio in Olney, Maryland and displays at locations in the Baltimore area, the Atlantic region, and in both physical & web galleries nationally.
Tom's Art: Utilizing elements of distorting mirror technique and drawing from aspects of both oil based realism and abstraction, Tom refocuses and highlights challenging social and environmental conditions. New vantage points are captured with innovative brushstrokes and the bold use of color. The resulting angular effects are heightened by the complementary and nontraditional shaped canvases which offer new dimensions and prompts alternative visual perspectives. Together these restructure the observer's view, both of the subject and of the building interactions with physical settings and society.
